1. GROUPS CONSIDER BOYCOTTING ORLANDO FOR EVENTS: Members of the National Association of Black Journalists have urged the group to move its upcoming convention in Orlando following the not-guilty verdict of George Zimmerman in the death of teenager Trayvon Martin. The organization, though, said it would lose more than $1 million. The verdict is having other effects in the event world: Singer Stevie Wonder said he would boycott Florida concerts until the "Stand Your Ground" law was repealed. http://bit.ly/12JPnzd
2. MTV TO ANNOUNCE V.M.A. NOMINEES VIA INSTAGRAM AND VINE: The Oscars might not be able to get away with a social media stunt like this one, but MTV's hip and youth-focused Video Music Awards will debut the Video of the Year nominees and other award contenders through Instagram and Vine videos. The videos will be released every hour on Wednesday starting at 8 a.m. as part of the #RoadToTheVMAs campaign. The show is August 25 at Brooklyn's new Barclays Center. Mashable: "The V.M.A.s have a slew of new aspects this year: a new host venue in New York City, a newly redesigned Moonman award, and a new method to reveal nominees." http://on.mash.to/17j8bd0
3. FAN RUNS ONTO FIELD AT ALL-STAR GAME: A fan ran onto the baseball field at Tuesday night's All-Star Game in New York and offered a thoroughly modern excuse: Twitter made him do it. New York Post: "Dylan McCue Masone, 18, posted to Twitter at about 8 p.m.: '1000 RT’s and ill run across the field.' After getting the 1,000 retweets—in which Twitter users repeated his message—Masone ran onto the field in the fifth inning." http://bit.ly/13uQO4z
