The Authors Guild Foundation (part of the Authors Guild, a professional organization for published writers) held a benefit at the stately Metropolitan Club.
The event began with cocktails in the club's grand main hall, where the room's immense crossing stairways, gilded ceiling and acres of white marble were an elegant backdrop. Dinner was served in the nearby dining room, with its painted ceilings, red drapes and large windows (which allowed guests to see the evening's harsh rainstorm).
Author Calvin Trillin served as the M.C., and the event featured remarks by foundation president and author Sidney Offit and guild president and author Letty Cottin Pogrebin. Author Scott Turow also presented an award to Roger Straus of Farrar, Straus and Giroux.

The event started with cocktails in the grand main hall of the Metropolitan Club.

Dinner was served in the Metropolitan Club's first floor dining room.

The tables were set with simple centerpieces from Floralies.

The tables also had small oval frames (from the Metropolitan Club) showing the table numbers.
