Pedestrians walking down Fifth Avenue got an eyeful during Cosmopolitan and Sephora's swimsuit fashion show. With models posing in designer bikinis inside the windows of the Sephora store at Rockefeller Center, the event caused quite a commotion among people walking by the store. A fairly large crowd of people formed on the sidewalk, while a few police officers watched to keep the gawkers away from the street.
Meanwhile, inside the store another crowd (including both invited guests and people who walked in off the street) formed to watch the show and listen to comments from Cosmo editor in chief Kate White and Sephora.com editor Andrea Pomerantz-Lustig. As the models walked through the store and in the windows, DJ David Rappa played an appropriately up-to-the-minute mix of music, including songs from Daft Punk, Moby and Outkast.
Following the show was a cocktail party in the store with a bar by Kahlua. The crowd of mostly young women carried drinks through the store while browsing Sephora's vast collection of beauty products. (Although event staffers eventually manned the doors with the guest list, uninvited passersby intrigued by the commotion also entered the party.) GO Catering served some light hors d'oeuvres.
The event also had a benefit element: A silent auction of photographs by Patrick Demarchelier benefited Dress for Success (a nonprofit that gives low-income women suits for job interviews), and for every $50 purchase made during the event the store made a donation to Operation Smile (a nonprofit that provides reconstructive surgery to children with physical deformities).
Susan Magrino Agency and Tractenberg & Company handled the event's public relations, sending a "Bikini Alert" to journalists before the show.
