To show off its latest property, the Westin New York—Times Square, Starwood Hotels invited its best meeting and event clients in town for the Meeting World trade show to a Broadway-themed bash. "We are honored to be showcasing Starwood's newest addition to the New York City market to our best customers," said David Marr, Starwood's regional vice president of sales and marketing for the mid-Atlantic region.
Produced by Dianne Devitt of DND Group, the event hosted 200 meeting and event planners for cocktails, a buffet dinner prepared by executive chef David Ribbens, and a cabaret performance of Forbidden Broadway, an Off Broadway show that parodies Broadway musicals.
The cocktail hour was held in the ninth-floor New York Atrium, where Pink Inc. installed its "Tree of Life" stretch fabric sculpture in the center of the room, rising from the main bar. Unusual plant and flower arrangements dotted the bar and cheese and cracker tables, and small sets of lounge furniture were set atop low platforms. Warm pink and yellow gobo lights shined on the sheer white fabric draped along the walls. After the one-hour reception, guests were led downstairs to the fifth-floor Majestic Ballroom, where a large buffet with beet salad, sautéed foie gras and other dishes awaited guests. Westin Times Square general manager John Sweeney welcomed guests and gave a few short remarks before kicking off the performance of Forbidden Broadway.
