A Chelsea art gallery served as the setting for an event celebrating Cherry Coke’s new can design as reimagined by rapper Jay-Z’s fashion house, Rocawear. In a somewhat unexpected pairing of art and soda, Coke promoted the revamped packaging with an exhibit of works by sculptor Charlie Becker, painter Dave White, animator Kid America Club, digital illustrator Nigel Dennis, and photographer Shareif Ziyadat—all inspired by the can’s new look. “Cherry Coke asked us to build around the concept of the can with Rocawear. We wanted to interpret it … and extend it to the rest of the creative world,” said Samantha Walker, vice president of Strategic Group, which produced the event. “We wanted to invite other people from the art world to interpret it.” The display showcasing the artwork served as the centerpiece for the room, while elements such as couches and candleholders reflected a palette borrowed from the can’s new design, as well as the fruit of the hour.
