In the same historic building that houses the Waterfront is La.venue, a new dedicated event venue in west Chelsea, which will hold its official opening party this Thursday, June 5. Encompassing 18,000 square feet of space, the site, owned by Sodes Inc. (a subsidiary of Fédération Française de Prêt à Porter Féminin, which produces trade shows such as Prêt à Porter Paris and accessories expo the Train in New York), underwent a $1.2 million renovation that restored much of the interior's original structural elements including brick work, wooden flooring, redwood columns, and exposed ceiling beams. The main floor comprises four adjoining areas on the north side of the block-long building and these can be rented together or separately; they total 16,500 square feet combined. Areas 4 and 6 open directly onto 28th Street; area 4 features a front vestibule and there is direct access to loading docks from area 6, which allows for easy load-in and load-out. Total capacity is set at 1,100 for receptions or 600 seated.
Also on this level are a cold prep kitchen with a 500-pound capacity ice-making machine, two A.D.A.-compliant restrooms, and access to the Waterfront's long and narrow space—management can arrange for the Waterfront to be rented in conjunction with La.venue. In the 1,500-square-foot basement are additional bathrooms as well as a storage space.
Designed for trade shows, La.venue has its own 600-amp power supply, electrical outlets of many of the columns, and Wi-Fi Internet access throughout. Preferred vendors include Allure Catering, Chestnuts in the Tuileries, and Bernhard-Link Theatrical Productions.
