Towering 46 stories over SoHo, the first downtown Trump hotel property officially opens, Friday, April 9. Designed by Handel Architects with interiors by the Rockwell Group, Studio A, and DiGuiseppe Architects, the soaring glass Trump SoHo New York houses surprisingly intimate spaces suitable for business travelers and meetings and events. Done up in neutral tones and floor-to-ceiling windows, the hotel's offerings include 391 rooms and suites, the 160-seat Quattro Gastronomia Italiana restaurant, an 11,000-square-foot spa, three bar and lounge areas, and more than 12,000 square feet of function and conference space.
With the exception of Bar d'Eau, the seasonal indoor-outdoor bar next to the pool deck slated to open this summer, all the public areas are connected to the lobby. This dramatic street-level entrance has comfortable banquettes and 22-foot ceilings emphasized by four slender columns covered in chocolate brown and metallic blue Venetian plaster and vertical screen walls of wood. More seating is found in Kastel, a club-like lounge in the rear of the lobby with textured wood walls and charcoal-colored concrete flooring.
The hotel is home to the first New York outpost of Quattro Gastronomia Italiana, a popular eatery in South Beach, Florida. Run by KNR Restaurant Group and serving Northern Italian cuisine from chef Fabrizio Carro, Quattro is spread across two floors and embellished with emerald green tiles and tan leather seats. The mezzanine holds two private dining areas that combined seat 70. On the same level is the library, a subdued space filled with Taschen's art and design books.
On the third floor are the meeting facilities: five rooms with adjacent pre-function areas and technology for video conferencing, high-speed wired and wireless Internet access, and video projection. Measuring 3,900 square feet, the SoHo ballroom is the largest space and has the capacity for 400 seated theater style or can be divided into two sections that each seat 180. Although smaller, the Hudson Square room sports 20-foot ceilings and sits adjacent to the 1,289-square-foot Spring Terrace. SoHi, the property's penthouse-level event space and showpiece, is slated to open in June.
