Atlantic City continues to grow its nightlife options in hopes of attracting a young cash-spending crowd, as well as events, from New York and Philadelphia. Here's a look at six spots:
1. The 2008 expansion of Harrah’s Atlantic City added the Pool, a massive bar and entertainment site that thrust the resort to the forefront of the club scene. As a result, Harrah’s introduced an adjacent space in 2010. Known as the Loft, the $1 million addition overlooks the main club and can be used for receptions as well as meetings for as many as 100.
2. Nearby is Mixx, a section of the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa that was renovated and reopened in June. Originally part restaurant, part club, Mixx now has bottle service seating areas in place of its former sushi bar, new chandeliers and plasma TVs, and a color scheme of dark purple, grey, and chocolate brown. For full buyouts, Mixx holds 700.
3. Mur.Mur, the newer club cousin of Mixx that’s known around town for its free Monday night DJ parties, is also offered for private events. Measuring 8,300 square feet, this sleek spot can hold 600 for receptions.
4. At the Chelsea, designer Shawn Hausman, who worked on the interiors of Chateau Marmont and the Standard Hotel in Los Angeles, created C5, a nightspot within the fifth floor’s Cabana Club. Small and decorated with Art Deco, Art Nouveau, and glam rock touches, this space accommodates private seated events for as many as 50 people.
5. Main Stage is the largest of two additions to Bally’s Atlantic City’s Wild Wild West Casino, which completed a $1.5 million renovation that introduced new areas to the boardwalk-adjacent hotel. Main Stage is a open-floor-plan venue for live entertainment that sits between Caesars and Bally’s. There is also a 12-table beer pong area.
6. New York-based Metronome Hospitality Group operates the Atlantic City outpost of Providence, which fills two levels inside the Tropicana. Decked out with a Gothic arch (a nod to the architecture of its New York sibling), a wraparound balcony, and two towers for DJs, the venue can accommodate 800 for receptions or seat 400 for banquets.
