The Pediatric Cancer Foundation hosted its annual Fisherman's Ball fund-raiser at the Tampa Bay Rays' Tropicana Field on November 9. More than 600 guests enjoyed a taste of the tropics as they got the opportunity to not only step on the field reserved for ball players, but have their dinner there as well.
Event planner Lindsey Whitney of the foundation recruited Modern Display to turn the field into a tropical oasis. Tables were draped in floral linens with glass fish vases holding exotic florals courtesy of Grand Events. Additionally Team Sandtastic created a detailed sand sculpture featuring the foundation's logo. For a bit of added ambience, a group of children under the care of the foundation played the steel drums for guests' entertainment during dinner.Attendees feasted on wide variety of island-inspired treats from 20 local restaurants including the Salt Rock Grill and Catch Twenty Three. Everything from pineapple infused mojitos from Bellarte, to chicken curry and mango bread from Island Flavors & 'Tings was served.
One of the many highlights of the evening was the extensive live and silent auction, featuring a week at the former Key West residence of Jimmy Buffet and a pair of Hannah Montana tickets. In addition, Brian Olsen of Brian Olsen Art in Action, entertained guests with his signature performance artistry.
All the proceeds from the evening are going towards the Sunshine Project-a three-year project, which unites the leading researchers, oncologist, and intuitions to fast track new treatments for children battling cancer.
