After nearly six years as the director of special events for the Washington Performing Arts Society, Barbara Blauhut has left the nonprofit for WETA, Washington’s public broadcasting radio and television station.
As the director of special events for the station, a role she assumed Monday, June 16, Blauhut will be responsible for 60 annual events, consisting of dinners, receptions, screenings, and community events. Currently, she is planning a movie screening for 1,000 guests at the George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium in September, as well as a Campaign 2008 panel moderated by Judy Woodruff at the Newseum.
“I was looking for new challenges in my career,” Blauhut said. “I look forward to working with a nationally recognized organization on a variety of events that are new to me, including community events and screenings.”At the WPAS, Blauhut had planned roughly 60 events a year, including the annual gala and auction, held earlier this month. She also teaches event-planning classes through Arlington County Adult Education, a job she plans to continue.
WETA's former director of special events, Lynn Terrell, left the station in March for a position at Airbus America in Herndon, Virginia.
