Former Hamasuko chefs Hiro Fujita and Haya Saito craft the European-influenced Japanese cuisine at Hamasuko's new sister restaurant, Kumo, on Melrose. The striking all-white decor and unique cut-out ceiling evoke an anime version of its name, which means “cloud” in Japanese. The glass entrance leads to a semicircular cocktail bar. In the dining room, custom white and chrome booths sit atop a deep blue carpet, continuing the sky theme. A vibrant video installation above the sushi bar entertains guests, and a serene, silent waterfall separates the main dining room from the V.I.P. area. Specialties include a lunch bento box, and an indulgent, personalized multicourse tasting menu is also available.
