Steve Adelman, the owner of Avalon and the Spider Club, debuted new Hollywood hotspot 86 in January. The intimate dining and cabaret space was once Rudolph Valentino's basement speakeasy. The subdued lighting and rich decor in golds and reds—plus a peekaboo slot in the front door—recall the opulence of the 1920s with a distinctly private feel. The venue's name itself is a nod to a historic code to empty the club from the back door if the cops showed.

The venue's capacity is 300, or 159 for seated events. The Gold Room lounge holds 20 for seated events, and the Valentino Room can accommodate 12. A private stage, bar, and V.I.P. room can be rented, as can the entire space. Already a favorite with music-industry folks thanks to a high-tech sound system and DJ setup, it’s scheduled to play host to several pre-Grammy parties this week. Chef Keith Silverton, who comes via Dominick’s and the Water Grill, offers items ranging from lobster Thermidor to braised ribs.
