A row of black town cars lining Park Avenue in front of the Park Avenue Armory signaled the return of the Winter Antiques Show—and its opening night party planned by the Susan Magrino Agency—to its usual roosting spot after a stint at the Hilton New York last year. As usual, the decor was elegant, the food straightforward and the social-set crowd refined for the show's 49th annual installment.
In the main entrance, Bill Tansey of Tansey Design Associates used blue lights to illuminate 20-foot tall birch trees and a children's sleigh from the Shelburne Museum piled high with mounds of baby's breath. At the show floor's entrance, floor-to-ceiling boxwood walls flanked both sides and showcased large reproductions of the show's phoenix logo.
Inside the show, the armory's high, raw ceilings were draped in white fabric to create a warmer atmosphere for the international antiques dealers showcasing their wares, and Tansey filled the aisles with large black and blue urns overflowing with lush white flowers and greenery, including roses, lilies, viburnum, lilacs and ivy.
Taste set up food stations in each aisle that offered tasty, straightforward items like sushi rolls, petite panini and lightly steamed vegetables with dipping sauces that allowed for easy eating while mingling, and Moet & Chandon wine, spirits and Champagne flowed at the bar. Caterwaiters maneuvered through the crowded room serving hors d'oeuvres like shrimp marinated with dijon, shallots and fresh dill on wooden trays decorated with bright, red cranberries.
Proceeds from the party, which was sponsored by Elle Decor and co-chaired by Diane von Furstenberg and Barry Diller, benefited the East Side House Settlement.
