Guests entering the second annual Drinks Show could be forgiven for wondering if they'd mistakenly stumbled upon a country lawn party. In a move that brought the outside in, organizers liberally embellished the tented venue on the grounds of the Distillery District with fine-textured grasses from Wildflower Farm. The lawn-grade turf was used to garnish a variety of surfaces, including the tops of patio tables and a 60-foot bar.
Drinks Show is put on by the Martini Club, a liquor promotions company that specializes in creating drink menus. Martini Club president Michelle Hunt worked with public relations agency Courtney Rainey Group and event company Eventure Solutions to orchestrate the show, which is open to the public and intended to promote the sale of cocktail ingredients. Attendees traversed a ramp bordered by two large video screens to enter the venue. The screens displayed vivid underwater imagery from Virtual Ocean.
At the base of the entrance ramp, various bottles of liquor were showcased in ice-block walls from Iceculture. The walls also acted as an enclosure for the Eventure Solutions DJ.
Once inside, attendees could indulge in exotic cocktails and peruse display booths set up by sponsors and suppliers such as the LCBO and Absolut Vodka. They could also admire murals of grass patterns from StudioStampa, illuminated with multilayered lighting from Lightstudio.
Throughout the evening Dave's Original Grill served an endless supply of pulled-pork appetizers, including mini pork-on-a-bun sandwiches. Nibblers downed their appetizers while resting on lounge furniture constructed of a combination of steel, stone, glass, and plastics from designer Heidi Earnshaw of Source Design.
