Pins and needles took on new size at Bravo’s launch party for the third season of Project Runway, where event producer Devin Delano brought in two enormous red pincushions on raised platforms. Delano modeled the decor after the new season’s advertisements, which are on buses and phone booths all over town (showing host Heidi Klum holding a pincushion). Jutting out of the giant red spheres were plastic needles, each adorned at the tip with the faces of the season three cast members, interspersed with sponsor logos. Suzanne Couture Modelmaking created the cushions, which weighed several hundred pounds. The event also gave the 600 attendees the opportunity to get a personalized memento by including a station where the guests could have their photo inserted into the season three ad. Dozens of people waited in line for the chance to pose in front of the green screen and have their face placed on the pin in Klum’s hand.
The cocktail party, held at lounge-of-the-moment Buddha-Bar, mixed designers from all three seasons of the reality show with media buyers and press. Delano worked with NBC manager of special events Alison Katz, NBC director of special events Annie Simon, and Bravo director of ad sales Shari Weisenberg to plan the launch.
