6 Columbus, the much-awaited, much-delayed Columbus Circle hotel from the Pomeranc brothers, finally opened—quietly—last month. Thompson Hotels manages the 88-room Midtown property. The design, from Steven Sclaroff, is a contemporary take on 1960s mod, with teak and chrome being the primary materials for furnishings, along with a pony-skin-lined elevator and a showcase of Guy Bourdin’s fashion photos. On-site is the newest location of the Blue Ribbon restaurants. Two luxury penthouses—at more than 1,000 square feet each—have double-height ceilings, fireplaces, and kitchens. While there are no dedicated event spaces within the hotel, these suites can be used for events. A private rooftop bar is expected to be completed later this year.
