Each October the Sarasota firefighters and Downtown Merchants Association host Fright Factory—a haunted house of terror. But this Halloween, they transformed their 14,000-square-foot Fright Factory space into the first Pineapple Monster Ball to benefit the city's Child Protection Center.
A blood-red carpet greeted ghoulishly costumed guests as they arrived. The empty warehouse had been transformed into a maze of twists and turns leading to various classic Hollywood horror scenes. Attendees were terrified and delighted to find themselves socializing in graveyards, boiler rooms, and the lab of a mad scientist. T.J. Rhoades of Fright Factory V and Cheryl Frampton of the Downtown Merchants Association worked diligently to include as many horrifying scenes as possible.Guests found relief throughout the evening with full-service bars and catering from 10 of Sarasota's best downtown restaurants nestled into nooks of the haunted maze. Among the favorite treats of the evening were MacAllister's Scottish pumpkin spread and The Melting Pot's famous fondue. The signature drink, a Jekyll & Hyde, remained popular throughout the night, giving guests an extra boost of liquid courage to help them through the maze. Cocktail tables were placed throughout the labyrinth.
International Productions and DJ Funk Master Dima provided dance favorites mixed with eerie sound effects to set the mood for the brave souls who made their way out. A live saxophonist clad in a Venetian mask also performed.
