5 Places to Pamper V.I.P.s in Los Angeles

Alesandra Dubin
May 12, 2010

Los Angeles is known for its residents' emphasis on health and wellness, so there may be no better place to get pampered than here. Try these five spa offerings to entertain a special client or reward a team.

1. The 20,000-square-foot Spa Montage at the Montage Beverly Hills hotel is a luxe two-story space with 17 treatment rooms, an airy fitness center, and a Kim Vo salon. The spa is offering a new "Spa Montage Soiree" package for groups. For $200 per person, groups have access to the relaxation room as their home base for the day. Each guest may select a 60-minute spa treatment, followed by lunch or afternoon tea, and gifts. The spa's 60-minute treatments begin at $165, so the group rate is a value.

2. Along with this year's major renovation at the Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills came upgrades to the spa, including new tiling in the steam rooms, locker refacing, and refurbished wood in the saunas. Added to the facility's ever-evolving treatment menu is a new offering exclusive in the U.S.: the "Manipura Experience," which focuses on health and vitality. It begins with a Himalayan crystal scrub meant to purify, detoxify, and stimulate the lymphatic system and follows with a full-body massage. Accustomed to pampering V.I.P.s, the spa, helmed by director Derek Hofmann, also accommodates guests with perks like pre- and after-hours or in-room treatments, and chocolates from the in-house pastry chef. Traditionally, the spa does not offer group rates or package pricing, but works individually on value-added elements and other personalizing touches.

3. The Lounge Spa is a diminutive 3,500-square-foot space tucked away in an area of Culver City apart from the bustle of its downtown foot traffic. (Read: easy free parking away from the Hollywood gridlock and scene.) The facility has co-ed and female-only lounge spaces, and an "Elixer Bar" for health-promoting drinks. There are five treatment rooms on the premises, and groups may rotate through treatments with use of a private V.I.P. room. Spa personnel also travel to events off site, and a staff event planner is on hand to carry an event theme through its food and beverage and decor.

4. The Huntington Spa at the Langham Huntington, Pasadena is now open following renovations. The new 11,000-square-foot facility has a fitness center and 13 treatment rooms and offers a range of spa and beauty services. A new element, Chuan Body & Soul, incorporates traditional Chinese medicine to provide a different sort of wellness experience. All Chuan signature treatments include breathing rituals and acupressure. In addition to its signature treatments, Chuan Body & Soul also offers traditional Chinese medicine therapies like acupuncture, Ho Guan (cupping), moxibustion, ear seeds, and other techniques.

5. As of April, the spa at Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village is offering a new menu of skin and body treatments that combine all-natural services with noninvasive skincare technology. New facial treatments use products from Ling Skincare, ZO Skin Health, and Uspa, and body treatments include wraps and scrubs with all-natural products from Uspa. The 40,000-square-foot spa has 28 treatment rooms and suites, each with its own private outdoor terrace. Relaxation areas include men’s and ladies’ lounges, each with dry sauna, eucalyptus steam room, and mosaic-tiled whirlpool rooms. Four spa suites, each with daybed, fireplace, and experience shower, offer views of garden terraces and private plunge pools. In addition, there are 10 outdoor cabanas with day beds and private bars surrounding the serenity pool.

The Pasadena Playhouse celebrated its centennial with a bold, unconventional gala featuring immersive projection mapping and a surprise escrow announcement—all while shattering fundraising records.
While officially buying the building before the gala was always the goal, event planner Sam Palmer was careful to ensure the gathering would be successful even if the timing didn’t work out. “We had a million different plans, because quite frankly, a million details needed to go right for that to happen,' he said. 'Our leadership and board worked very, very hard to get us across the finish line, and it was a beautiful moment.”
