8 Last-Minute Ideas for Holiday Parties in Orlando

Mitra Sorrells
November 29, 2010
As we enter the thick of the corporate holiday party season, here are some ideas and resources to keep a group entertained, fed, and rewarded.

1. Get your guests singing and dancing with Karaoke-A-Go-Go, a new act produced by Metropolis Productions and available for booking through Day Entertainment and Events. A rocking blend of musicians, DJs, and dancers bring the combined feel of a live band and karaoke to your event. The act is available for $2,800 for three hours, and the performers come decked out in holiday attire. For a more subdued vibe, book strolling Christmas carolers at a cost of $1,200 for as many as three 20-minute sets. If you just want walking decor, choose from a pair of costumed toy soldiers on stilts for $850 or three “snowflake girls” for $1,100, each for three 40-minute meet-and-greets.

2. Letz Dance on It can create a holiday-themed dance floor for a corporate party. The company can put any image, such as ornaments or candy canes, on the tiles, or they offer a hologram floor perfect for a winter wonderland atmosphere. The floor is assembled in three- by four-foot sections, and pricing starts at $4 per square foot.

3. Add some glitz to a party with new sparkle fabrics from Conceptbait. The fabric can be used for draping or chair covers and comes in black on black sparkle and white on white sparkle. In early 2011, platinum, gold, plum, and red will be added. The chair form is manufactured from Italian four-way stretch Lycra so it will fit virtually any standard armless chair. The fabrics rent for $6.25.

4. Create some friendly competition for smaller groups with a holiday mixer activity from Wildly Different. The company offers several options, including “Who Stole the Holiday Cheer?”—a game that has guests mixing and mingling to figure out who took the gifts at a holiday party. The game costs $47 and comes with supplies and simple instructions. Masters of the Hunt, a sister company of Wildly Different, offers six holiday scavenger hunts, such as the Christmas Challenge Treasure Hunt and the Holiday Mixer Hunt. Prices range from $17 to $47 for each do-it-yourself hunt.

5. Edibles Etc. will bring a holiday feast to your office for $13.95 per person. The menu includes turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, salad, rolls, and a dessert tray including pumpkin pie with white chocolate ganache, chocolate pecan pie, and assorted cheesecakes. The price includes plates, flatware, napkins, and serving utensils. The caterer can also create custom menus from choices such as glazed ham, beef tenderloin, shrimp cocktail, and side dishes like sweet potato casserole and buttered green beans.

6. Puff ‘n Stuff Catering and Events is offering a twist on classic comfort food—lobster mac-and-cheese. The dish is made with Maine lobster, crisp prosciutto, Grana Padano cheese, and a pinch of nutmeg, served on a cheddar cheese tuile. Servings range from $6 to $20 per person, depending on portion size and how it is presented (chef-attended station, butler-passed, part of a plated meal).

7. Sprinkles Custom Cakes in Winter Park is making holiday flavors of its CakeShooter, a push-up pop with three layers of cake and icing. Choose from cake flavors of pumpkin, red velvet, and gingerbread spice, or add candy cane chips to any batter. Then select a filling—red, green, or blue icing or any color with sprinkles or candy cane chips mixed in. Sprinkles will decorate each shooter with holiday stickers or a company logo or message for no additional charge. The shooters cost $3 each and can be gift-wrapped for an additional fee. Sprinkles can also arrange delivery at a charge of $16 to $34 depending on distance.

8. Peterbrooke Chocolatier in Winter Park can create a variety of customizable treats perfect for gift-giving. All items are available in dark, milk, and white chocolate as well as sugar-free and 72 percent cacao that is made without dairy products. Bring in a wine bottle and they will coat it with your choice of chocolate starting at $18. For an additional fee, they will decorate it to look like a tuxedo. Or, make a really big impression with Peterbrooke’s 40-pound, three-foot-tall solid chocolate Santa, available for $350 plus shipping. Other options include a solid chocolate shoe coated in red luster spray for $35, and the company’s signature chocolate-covered popcorn available in a range of quantities.

'Our leadership and board worked very, very hard to get us across the finish line, and it was a beautiful moment.”
