Here’s a look at 10 highlights from our event coverage this week, including Boston's vertical fashion show, a tailgate party for Univision Deportes in New York, a 1940s-style U.S.O. bash in Palm Beach, and Toronto's futuristic Massive Party.
Revere Hotel Boston Common’s Vertical Fashion Show

A 24-story vertical banner, emblazoned with the words "Revere Hotel Boston Common," served as the runway for an unusual fashion show marking the hotel’s grand opening April 18. Attracting 150 guests, the presentation saw harnessed rock climbers-turned-models sashaying down the facade of the building wearing hotel uniforms and fashions from British designer Ted Baker. The goal of what planners called the "vertical fashion show" was to introduce the luxury boutique hotel to the city and promote its brand through references to Boston’s history.

International Pow Wow

U.S. Travel Association’s International Pow Wow, the travel industry's major international marketplace and the largest generator of travel to the country, just wrapped its run from Sunday through Wednesday at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The last time the event came to town was in 2004, prior to the city's development of L.A. Live—and a total of $7 billion in capital improvements. The newly renamed Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board and other local sponsors and participants were eager to show off. A fireworks show over the Hollywood & Highland Center added drama and celebrated 125 years of Hollywood at the opening-night gala on Sunday.

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital Preview Gala

On April 20, almost four years to the day after the groundbreaking ceremony that signaled the start of its construction, the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago hosted a glittery, celebrity-packed benefit. Sarah Jessica Parker was the M.C. At the end of the evening, she read aloud an email from her sister-in-law, who has a close connection to Children's Memorial Hospital. She also gave a toast in each of the three dining rooms before dinner and read John F. Kennedy's famous quotation, "Children are world's most valuable resource, and its best hope for the future"
