This 'Bachelorette' Viewing Party Exploited the Show's Best Cliches

Wedding Paper Divas and Mindy Weiss hosted an event that playfully poked fun at the ABC show's popular recurring phrases and themes.

While nearly 8.5 million viewers were watching the finale of ABC's The Bachelorette at home, an intimate group of 16 members of the celebrity and entertainment media took in the dramatic season finish in a much more stylized atmosphere. Wedding Paper Divas hosted a viewing party with design and production by celebrity wedding planner—and Wedding Paper Divas collaborator—Mindy Weiss. Former Bachelorette star Andi Dorfman also played host. At the party on August 1, cheeky nods to the show's famous cliches and in-jokes dotted the space for tongue-in-cheek decor.

Throughout the event, held in her own New York City apartment, Weiss designed vignettes displaying her predictions for what she thinks the wedding could look like for the show’s newly engaged couple, JoJo Fletcher and Jordan Rodgers. Speculating, she went with rustic invitations, a simple menu, fancy china, and local flowers.

For portions of the decor such as a romantic tabletop, Weiss chose a sweet, vintage look with a laid-back California vibe—meant as a nod to Rodgers’ roots. The palette included cream and soft greens.

Decor items from Shutterfly played off some of the show’s themes, including a serving tray that said, “Will you accept this rosé?” and a cutting board emblazoned, “I love you like Chad loves food,” referring to another contestant. (Shutterfly offers the products on its site, and customized them for the event.)

The party packed its main punch from graphic details pulled from the franchise’s most oft-used lines, which have over the years become in-jokes among viewers and fans: throw pillows emblazoned “here for the right reasons,” a bedcover marked “the most dramatic night ever,” and a door marked as a faux entrance to the show’s famous “Fantasy Suite.”

At The Bachelorette viewing party, a cheeky printed linen nodded to one of the show's popular refrains.
