DECOR: Colored Water Adds Effect

E344620
Sure, anyone can use slender and striking vases with long-stem red roses placed carefully in each as a centerpiece or focal point. However, add a few drops of food coloring and the entire effect changes. Now, what was pretty—but ordinary—becomes that much more unique. Pair the water color to match the color of the flowers and the piece becomes a monochromatic masterpiece. Sure, it's pretty obvious, but with all the high-tech and heavy-duty effects out there, we tend to forget the simple things. Food coloring is ideal because it is non-toxic, can be purchased in any supermarket and is cheap. Use candles (like Allover Miami did at a recent event) for underglow. —Shari Lynn Rothstein
