The French Institute Alliance Francaise's Trophee Des Arts gala at the Pierre was a fairly traditional benefit (silent auction, cocktails, dinner, hotel ballroom), but a few quintessentially French details managed to stick out. The tables holding silent auction items were covered in classy copper-colored tablecovers (ahh, French style), that were designed by Anderson Events, who handled all the decor for the auction displays. And before the cocktail hour was even over a group of renegade guests were smoking in the hallway (the French love their cigarettes, don't they?).
The black-tie benefit attracted a well-dressed, very formal crowd (lots of men try to get away with dark suits at these types of galas, but not here). Actor Matthew Modine served as M.C., and Jeanne Moreau was the honoree.
After bidding on high-ticket items from donors including Chanel, Christian Dior, Kiehl's and Martha Stewart, guests headed into the Grand Ballroom, where Catherine Guialdo of Color of Magic brought in colorful centerpieces with various flowers including roses, ranunculus, hyacinth and hydrangea. Before dinner even started, the Stingers were already playing a lively classic rock mix.
