For Glamour magazine's 12th annual Women of the Year awards, a gaggle of celebrities and guests of the magazine and awards sponsor Revlon gathered in the Grace Rainey Rogers auditorium inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art to witness the two-hour awards presentation, which honored thirteen women for their exceptional achievements in a variety of industries. The awards show was produced by Swell Productions, and was followed by an after-party and buffet dinner in the museum's famed Temple of Dendur.
For the after-party, Avi Adler used lots of candlelight and flowers to transform the cavernous temple, with its soaring ceiling, into an intimate party space. DJ Beverly Bond spun in a roped-off area in front of the temple itself, which was surrounded by cocktail tables covered with white tablecloths, and featured small white bouquets with roses, tulips, hydrangea and small white pumpkins nestled among the flowers. Big, fluffy white pillows were placed along the low stone wall that surrounds the temple, and low, glass-topped cocktail tables were set alongside the pillowed seats. White velvet-covered ottomans were placed on the other side of the cocktail tables.
Under Adler's direction, Frost Lighting shined gobos of Glamour's Women of the Year awards logo on the room's back wall, and pink, red and orange lights lit the temple walls. Hundreds of white votive candles in glass cups lined the reflecting pool, and large, wrought-iron candelabras stood inside the roped area off to the side of Bond's DJ area. More candelabras decorated the buffet tables, and small, single bouquets of white tulips, roses and freesia stood beneath the candle displays. Elevated arrangements placed in giant woks with the handles cut off featured red ornamental pear branches and variegated bush ivy.
A few items from Tentation's autumn-inspired menu included a bouillabaisse Provençal, lamb with potatoes and saffron ravioli, cranberry squares, and date and pumpkin tarts.
Among the honorees were Broadway dance guru Susan Stroman; Vagina Monologues playwright Eve Ensler; Antarctic explorers Liv Arnesen and Ann Bancroft; CNBC CEO Pamela Thomas-Graham; American Red Cross CEO Bernadine Healy; Project ALS founder Jenifer Estess; Salma Hayek; Diane Sawyer; Debra Messing; and Geraldine Ferraro. Two posthumous awards went to emergency medical technician Yamel Merino and police officer Moira Smith, who both perished in the September 11 attacks.
