N.B.A. All-Star Weekend's Jam Session

Activities for the N.B.A. All-Star weekend kicked off Thursday with the opening of N.B.A. Jam Session at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. The N.B.A. created a 4,000-seat basketball arena inside the facility, which will host the Sprint N.B.A. All-Star Celebrity Game tonight. Preparations are also underway at the Amway Center, which will host the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest tomorrow night and the N.B.A. All-Star Game Sunday night. Pregame and halftime entertainment will include Gym Class Heroes, Mary J. Blige, Nicki Minaj, Pitbull, and Ne-Yo.

Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences' Oscars Governors Ball Preview

The Governors Ball following the Academy Awards in Los Angeles will get a radically restructured format this year. The new open format, created by producer Cheryl Cecchetto of Sequoia Productions and previewed on Thursday morning, will allow the ball's 1,500 guests to circulate among a variety of seating configurations while dining on Wolfgang Puck's cuisine, instead of the more traditional sit-down dinner experience.

Jason Wu for Target Pop-Up

Event designer David Stark flew to Toronto from New York to design Thursday's Jason Wu for Target pop-up, the first Canadian event from the Minneapolis-based retailer. Inspired by the collection, Stark wanted the space to feel like “a French fantasy” and added whimsical graphics and branding to the façade of the modern building on King Street.

South Beach Wine & Food Festival

The South Beach Wine & Food Festival kicked off yesterday in Miami, and the organizers have already set up the area for Sunday's Grand Tasting Village. The event, which will include demonstrations and tastings, will close the festival.

Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture Groundbreaking

The Smithsonian Institution broke ground for the National Museum of African American History and Culture at an invitation-only ceremony on Wednesday morning under a heated tent on Washington D.C.'s National Mall. President Barack Obama spoke, and former First Lady and museum council member Laura Bush helped break ground. Occupying the last available space on the Mall, the 380,000-square-foot museum will open in 2015 and include exhibition halls, an auditorium, a cafe, offices, and an education center.

Marni at H&M Preview Party

Production company Bureau Betak turned a private residence in Los Feliz into cozy retreat for the Marni at H&M launch party on February 17. At the 200-person dinner party, the Los Angeles home’s Mayan-style architecture provided an interesting backdrop in which to showcase the Italian fashion brand’s modern tribal aesthetic.

Skating Club of Boston’s Skaters Ball

To celebrate the Skating Club of Boston’s 100th anniversary at its Skater’s Ball February 18, the buffet table in the reception area had an ice sculpture of a skate blade, upheld by a block of ice engraved with the words "100 Years of Excellence." The sculpture was flanked by two white skate boots that served as vases for arrangements of white calla lilies, lilies of the valley, and geraniums. The event took place at the Fairmont Copley Plaza.

Keep Memory Alive's "Power of Love" Gala

Keep Memory Alive’s 16th annual "Power of Love" gala took to MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday. The affair brought out some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment, including Sean Combs, Samuel L. Jackson, and Kelly Rowland, to celebrate Muhammad Ali’s 70th birthday and raise funds for the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health and the Muhammad Ali Center.

Jack Threads' Pop-Up Shop

At the temporary store set up in New York’s Union Square on Friday and Saturday, the men’s flash-sale Web site invited visitors to pose for photos beside their favorite outfits while sporting a fake mustache or beard. The photos were entered into a competition where the winner received one of the five spring looks on display.
