2. ARE RESTAURANTS GOING CRAZY?: NYT op-ed columnist Frank Bruni revisits his restaurant-reviewing roots: “Romera is Manhattan’s newest culinary oddity, an elegant hideaway whose conceits include the pairing of each dish in an 11-course meal with a lukewarm flavored water in a lidded grappa glass. One water might be infused with leek and radish, another with jasmine and dried seaweed. Most taste like indecisive teas, commitment-phobic broths or pond runoff. ‘Feel free to smell them,’ said a server, as if I might otherwise feel jailed. ‘And to taste them.’ He paused. ‘Make a memory of them.’…It’s the craziest example I’ve encountered of the way our culture’s food madness tips into food psychosis, at least among those with keen appetites and the means to indulge them.”

3. NEW SOCIAL NETWORK: UberMedia's Chime.in content-sharing network combines Twitter-like sharing, blogging, and elements of Reddit. Users can write short articles, follow others, vote on comments, and include their own ads on the page, keeping 100 percent of the revenue. Companies like Disney, Bravo, and E! Online have already signed up for the service. Adweek:

4. DINE-IN ENTERTAINMENT: McDonald's is launching its own channel, McTV, which will stream 22-minute original news segments on local sports, music, fashion, culture, and other topics in its restaurants. L.A. Times: "McDonald's move is part of a broader digital-age strategy by corporate America to create its own platforms to speak directly to customers in an environment uncluttered by other media. Just as individuals have flocked to social media to tell their own stories, McDonald's is the latest in a growing number of image-conscious corporations and institutions that will reach out to consumers by acting as their own studio and network."

There just wasn’t enough room for differentiation at a cost guests were prepared to support. Instead of the next chapter in an arms race for luxury, the key to restoring growth in Las Vegas is diversification, especially when it comes to our entertainment options."
