With the economy in the gutter—and many storefront vacancies around town—Primo Hospitality Group’s Tony Riviera opened a space with what he views as a new restaurant concept: an economical steak house. Tony’s Steakhouse opened last weekend adjacent to the Caffe Primo flagship at the Sunset. The new steak house offers an affordable menu of entrees starting at $12, and a $5 martini offering, which will feature different spirits and formulations on a rotating basis.
The large, open floor plan allows for flexibility. The space features rich leather banquettes, Edison lamps, and flickering candles. A $2 million exhibition kitchen with a chef's table serves as a focal point, while an 800-bottle wooden wine rack rounds out the look.
Tony's features outdoor dining areas, including a lounge and fire pit. The entire space holds 300 for seated events and is available for full buyouts. Additionally, the adjacent outdoor area of the Sunset complex and Caffe Primo can be rented for larger events with catering by Tony’s for as many as 1,850 guests.
