The invitation to this week’s party for event designer Preston Bailey’s latest book, Inspirations, has a few elements likely to raise eyebrows. First is the promise of a performance from “the ultimate Dream Girl Jennifer Holiday,” giving guests a chance to compare Broadway’s original Effie to Jennifer Hudson’s Oscar-nominated film version. (A friend of Bailey, Holiday sang her trademark Dreamgirls song at the party for his book Fantasy Weddings in 2005, too.)
