In a town ruled by Atkins, the Zone, and 6:30 AM spinning classes, the Lane Bryant “Love the Way You Look in Tinseltown” event provided a place for women of all sizes to relax and get pampered during awards season. Held at a private residence in West Los Angeles most recently featured in the film In Good Company, celebrities mingled with guests and media while waiting their turn for massages, manicures, and pedicures from the popular Rescue Spa.
Racks of clothes from Lane Bryant lined the walls—from lacy, racy lingerie to Seven jeans—and the host invited guests to try on the gear in front of the many full-length mirrors around the house (although many were content to watch plus-size supermodel Mia Tyler—sister of Liv, daughter of Steven—twirl around in the various fashions).
Makeup artist Billy-B performed make-unders for those looking to update their look (less is more, he says), and Starting Over life coach Iyanla Vanzant read from her new book and gave guests tips on—what else?—loving their bodies and feeling good.
Between the pampering and spa services, guests snacked on treats like chocolate fudge brownies and designer sugar cookies shaped like zaftig women from pastry maven Whitney Dineen—a former plus-size model who vows to fatten up Hollywood, one cookie at a time. The gift bag was stuffed with goodies like a Lane Bryant gift card, jewelry, a sequined scarf, Vanzant’s new book, and Arcona cleansing facial pads. And instead of the usual Hollywood gift bag staple—a free pass to a trendy gym for a week—this bag had Dineen’s cookies to nibble on the drive home.
