August 29, 2014: Facebook Debuts Event Ads, Jay Z's Made in America Festival Plans L.A. Debut, Would You Send an Invite Made of Pizza?

1. FACEBOOK DEBUTS EVENT ADS: Facebook is appealing to event marketers with its rollout of a new advertising product that will appear in users’ news feeds. Adweek: “It doesn't appear that the social giant is defining "events" with tight parameters, which is interesting on a few levels. For instance, as people plan their weekends, the ads could be lucrative to not only movie marketers and concert promoters but also retailers holding sales-driven events. And local businesses such as restaurants may also find the ads intriguing: think location-targeted brunch deals in users' news feeds during late Sunday mornings.” http://bit.ly/1C7wtaF

2. JAY Z'S MADE IN AMERICA FESTIVAL PLANS L.A. DEBUT: With 50,000 people a day projected to attend Jay Z’s inaugural Los Angeles version of Made in America festival this weekend, neighbors are worried about the logistics and complained to festival and city officials about the event planning process and communication. Los Angeles Times: “Most felt shut out of the planning process and ignored by city officials. Fears about security, noise and crowd control were expressed. … With just a dozen acres of space and bookended by the Los Angeles Music Center and City Hall, Grand Park—with its lush grounds, interactive fountain plaza and eye-popping bright pink seating—has yet to welcome an event of this size.”

3. WOULD YOU SEND AN INVITE MADE OF PIZZA?: Fashion Week and greasy food don’t necessarily go together, but Charlotte Ronson is making a statement with an edible invitation. New York: “Charlotte Ronson has teamed up with ‘sexy’ New York pizza restaurant Asellina to create what is perhaps the greatest Fashion Week show invitation the world has ever seen: an actual, edible, cheesy margarita pizza called the ‘Ronsonrita,’ packaged in a limited-edition pizza box designed by Ronson herself.” http://thecut.io/1qFWCs4
