With all the high-powered tenants (like CAA’s new office) in the area, the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza decided to add a spiffy lounge in March for business meetings, after-work drinks, and private events. (Of course, anyone can head to XBar for just a nosh and a drink, too.) The airy design aims to evoke the California lifestyle with a nod to the sun, sand, and sea. Golden rattan furniture, a sand-pebble-covered wall, ample foliage, and splashes of greens, blues, and browns give the inside bar an earthy Southern California feel; seven cabana-style white booths backed by tall bamboo and color-changing LED lights emphasize the look. The 4,450-square-foot patio is filled with oversize striped lounge chairs, couches, ottomans, daybeds, and fire pits. The space is made for screenings, with eight large TVs inside and an eight-foot screen along the wall outside, plus there are two private entrances, so no dealing with the hotel hubbub to get there. XBar holds approximately 500 for receptions; the bar holds 176, including a 17-seat private room, and the patio holds close to 300. —Lesley Balla
