House & Home Media's V.I.P. party on the opening night of the Interior Design Show featured a striking yellow, black, and white colour palette, reflecting both H&H's design sense and the corporate colors of principal sponsor Yellow Pages. H&H president Linda Reeves described yellow as "the new hot colour." Designer Armin Martiros, founder of interior design shop Ma Zone, created the H&H event space in curtained-off area at the back of the trade show floor in the Direct Energy Centre. Two life-sized black model horses with Moooi floor lamps protruding from their heads flanked the entrance. A bright yellow carpet runner with runner with black ornate floor decals bordering each side finished the look. Inside to the immediate right, there were a series of low black coffee tables surrounded by yellow ottomans, all custom designed by Martiros. They were accented with wine glasses filled with yellow sand, a bloom, and a black votive candle. Nearby sat a 33-foot communal table made of three slabs of Canadian black walnut from Broadbent Furniture; each slab was valued at about $15,000. Paper chandeliers, also from Moooi, hung above the table. Further into the space, a yellow-lit acrylic-tile wall was the backdrop for a DJ table, where Geoff Kelleway performed all evening. Stunning tall black-and-white vases filled with unique decorative pieces and yellow blooms accented the Martini Club-staffed bar, where two yellow pillars with ornate decals flanked a white honeycomb backdrop. Contemporary Furniture Rentals provided black Philippe Starck Ghost chairs and small glass coffee tables topped by white doily-style decals and flowers in thin black vases. The table and chair arrangements lined the outskirts of the main area, which featured a large yellow rug with subtle patterns of roses, custom made for the event by Interface Flor.
