Destination D.C., Washington’s official convention and tourism corporation, announced new additions to its 2008-2009 board of directors Thursday.

Grand Hyatt Washington general manger Daniel J. Amato has been named chairman of the board, which is comprised of representatives from the hotel, restaurant, business, and media industries. A member of the board since 2004, Amato has more than 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry, working in Hyatt hotels in 11 cities nationwide before taking the helm at the 900-room Grand Hyatt."We've made great strides in the past year, launching a smart, strategic new brand strategy and marketing campaign, but there's serious work ahead for us," Amato said in a press release. "It's critical that we build strong relationships with our partners, including the Washington Convention Center Authority, the Hotel Association of Washington, D.C., and the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington, to collectively push for additional funding to support [our] objectives."

Amato replaces former chairman Dan Mesches, a partner at Star Restaurant Group. The voluntary position is part-time, allowing Amato to maintain his role at the Grand Hyatt.

The organization also appointed three new business leaders to its board on Thursday: Hervé Houdre, general manager of the Willard InterContinental, John Ross, the city's deputy CFO, and Joe Urschel, executive director of the Newseum.
