Not all corporate employee recognition events can feel as young as an afternoon on MTV’s TRL. But they can try. That was the goal for Enterprise vice president Kevin Morrisey and his assistant, Liane Chong, who planned a music video-inspired awards event at the Hilton Palm Springs. More than 300 employees came to the appreciation event, along with senior management from the car rental company’s St. Louis headquarters.Working with Long Beach-based Bravo Productions, they went for decor like graffiti art, chain-link fencing, concert barricades, neon trussing, and a fluorescent concert-style backdrop. Metal centerpieces featured splattered paint bases. (The edgy setting was a tribute to the company’s attendees who mainly fit into the Gen Y and X age range.) “The goal was to be innovative, inspiring and forward-thinking, yet strike a corporate balance,” said Bravo’s Greg Jenkins.
Guests entered through concertlike gates, made from aluminum trussing, with seating sections suspended from above. Bravo coordinated BBJ Linen’s linens and chair covers by gate sections: Section A was bright orange and purple, Section B was lime green and royal blue, and Section C was hot pink and teal. Bravo also created six 12-foot-tall graffiti panels for the space. Four neon truss towers from Heaven or Las Vegas complemented the look. Chain-link fencing backed by sheer organza fabric in hot colors popped with backlighting, and barricades framed the front of the stage.
The program opened and closed with three Enterprise employees singing and lip syncing to Destiny’s Child songs. As attendees exited the main space, they received tickets—mocked up to look like backstage passes—to the post-awards party on another level of the building. DJ Joe Groove kept guests on the dance floor throughout the night.
