Teknion chose the Fermenting Cellar in the Distillery District as the site of its latest product launch. The event, attended by 125 international journalists, architects, and designers, was coordinated by Teknion marketing director Laura Barsky with help from an in-house event team. The decor included specially created display areas to showcase three new Teknion furniture lines. Other design elements included an entrance display of black, white, and multi-coloured chair sculptures by Bruno Billio, resident artist at the Gladstone Hotel. Prior to dinner, caterwaiters from the Butler Did It passed Daniel et Daniel-prepared hors d'oeuvres such as mini pastry shells filled with chicken in a light cream sauce and spring rolls filled with arugula, poached pear, pecan, and stilton. Drapes hid the lavish dining area that occupied a wing of the cavernous space. A black communal table with white Ghost chairs from Contemporary Furniture Rentals stood atop a black-and-white zebra print runner in the centre of the dining area. Contemporary worked with Barski, to create the look, which included lush yellow and orange spring blooms in square flower box centerpieces from Church Street Flowers and white Paper chandeliers. Daniel et Daniel's five-course dinner took the form of a tasting menu and included asparagus soup served with a phyllo-wrapped white asparagus spear, a micro green bouquet wrapped with a sesame curried smoked salmon, and rack of lamb with a Pinot Noir reduction over steamed sugar snap peas, Israeli couscous, and pea shoots.
