The Washington Nationals plan to be major players on the D.C. events scene with their new stadium, set to open in April. The team recently announced a new management division—Nationals Ballpark Enterprises—that will handle events and venue rentals for Nationals Ballpark.
Newly appointed director Bari Lurie will head up the project, which will allow any area of the stadium to be rented for private events such as receptions, meetings, and concerts. The 41,222-seat stadium will have 10 private party suites, three club spaces, and six convention-type rooms. While exact capacities and square footage are yet to be determined, Lurie says these rooms, along with the large, open concourse and playing field, will be able to accommodate parties of any size.“We’re really excited about this opportunity and having the ability to use this venue to host every type of event,” said Lurie, who formerly worked for the Hillary Clinton campaign. “We really think we’ll become an important part of the D.C. [event] scene.”
Nationals Park is located in Southeast Washington and will open in time for the 2008 baseball season. The stadium, a joint design venture from HOK/Devrouax-Purnell Architects, plans to be the first major “green” ballpark in the United States.
