“Groovy” Gala Honors Industry's Best

The New York metro chapter of the International Special Events Society (ISES) hosted its annual Big Apple awards gala yesterday. The gala, which featured a “Feelin’ Groovy” theme, was held in the United Nations' Delegates Dining Room and was cochaired by ISES’ co-vice presidents of programs, Jennifer Quinones and Trey Moynihan.

Guests were greeted by 1970's-icon look-alikes—Mick Jagger, Goldie Hawn, and Austin Powers—who then accompanied them into the dining room for Aramark’s dinner of filet mignon medallions with wild mushroom potato croquettes and wilted spinach. Kathy Vermilye at Green Apple Events designed psychedelic, 70’s-inspired tabletops.

Now for the awards: Parties with Pizzazz won for best corporate event planning and best social event planning (under $50,000); the United Nations Delegates Dining Room won for best social event planning (over $50,000); Impressive Events won for best corporate event planning (over $50,000); Grand Central Marketing won for best entertainment production; and Perfect Productions/The Perfect Affair won for best ISES team event. Following the awards program, attendees danced to 70’s classics by World Entertainment Production’s 12-piece group, CTO Manhattan.
