1. OSCARS BANK ACCOUNT: The Academy Awards are a big moneymaker for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, drawing $89.6 million for the nonprofit organization. Hollywood Reporter: "Since the Oscars also cost the Academy $38.4 million to produce, the show resulted in $51.2 million in net revenue, by far the organization’s largest source of net revenue." http://bit.ly/WSCUYw
2. SUPER SNACKS: As part of a marketing blitz leading up to the Super Bowl, Wheat Thins created a contest for fans of the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens on Twitter and Instagram. "Users in each city are hoping to post the most messages on the social media platforms that include the hashtag #musthavewheatthins with either #BAL or #SF. 3. MCDONALD'S ENVIRONMENTAL MOVE: The fast food chain announced it will serve certified-sustainable seafood in its Filet-O-Fish sandwich and new Fish McBites. 4. THE FRIENDLY SKIES: Air New Zealand is setting up its customers on blind dates for a Valentine's Day promotion, seating them on a "sky couch" during a flight from London to Los Angeles. Ad Age: "Cameras will follow the two couples throughout their weekends in L.A., including the journey on Air New Zealand, to see how they get on. The agency has created an itinerary for the couples that takes them to unusual places, and has teamed up with the Guardian newspaper's 'Blind Date' section to recruit 'open minded' contestants for the compatibility quiz at Heathrow that will send them on a long flight in cuddle class with a complete stranger." http://bit.ly/WHllL5

COAST TO COAST: Meeting and event planners can now create a free listing on Events in America, an online directory of trade shows and conferences. The offer is available to corporate, nonprofit, association, hospitality, government, and independent planners, and the listing can include a Web site, email address, social media link, and photos.
BOSTON: Local interior designer and event and fashion stylist Erin Gates has landed a book deal with Simon & Schuster. The illustrated design and lifestyle book is slated for a 2014 release. http://bo.st/VvokXH
CHICAGO: "Step Out for the Sun-Times Foundation" will be at Saks Fifth Avenue February 7. The shoe-focused event will include cocktails and snacks and will let guests create their own Manolo Blahnik shoe style by selecting heel height, fabric or material, and style.
Smoke Daddy, a Wicker Park barbecue joint that opened in 1994, will expand in March to include more private dining space and 10 new flat-screen TVs. The restaurant can also cater off-site events.
DENVER: The 516-room Grand Hyatt Denver completed a $28 million redesign. One highlight is the 38th floor Pinnacle Club, a meeting space with windows on four sides that offers panoramic views of the city and Rocky Mountains.

MIAMI/SOUTH FLORIDA: Art Miami chose Hotel Beaux Arts Miami and JW Marriott Marquis Miami as its hotel partners for the 2013 Art Wynwood Fair February 14 to 18. Hotel guests will have V.I.P. status at the fair, including admission to the V.I.P. Preview, as well as use of a complimentary shuttle service between the hotels and the fair.
Krug Champagne is hosting two events next week in Miami: the Krug Champagne Reception and Dinner is Wednesday at Bourbon Steak at Turnberry Isle, and the Krug Aperitif is Thursday at Scarpetta at Fontainebleau Miami Beach.
NEW YORK: Queens-based Little Vintage Rentals is planning a spring launch and will serve the greater New York City area. Inventory will include mismatched china plates, milk-glass vases, mason jars, glass goblets, and decor pieces such as army trunks, suitcases, rotary phones, typewriters, and clocks.

ORLANDO: The Orange County Regional History Center opens a new exhibit January 26 in collaboration with Universal Orlando Resort. "A Year in the Life: Backstage to Onstage at Universal Orlando Resort" gives visitors a look at the extensive process that goes into bringing the theme park's annual events to life. The exhibit runs through January 5, 2014.
