1. ONLY TWO SONGS WILL BE PERFORMED AT OSCARS: There are five songs nominated for best original song at the upcoming Oscars, but only two will be performed at the ceremony on February 24. Lady Gaga will perform “Shallow” and Kendrick and SZA will perform “All The Stars.” The other three songs, “The Place Where Lost Things Go” from Mary Poppins Returns, “I’ll Fight” from RBG, and “When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings” from The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, will reportedly be acknowledged during the award presentation. Traditionally, all nominated songs have been performed live on the telecast. Variety: “Rumors of their exclusion is already causing consternation among members of the music branch as well as among those nominees’ respective camps. A source with knowledge of the Academy’s thinking says cutting songs is less a knock on the nominees than something long discussed as part of this year’s mandate to limit the show to three hours. The Academy has hinted that several Oscars (for so-called ‘craft’ categories such as sound editing and sound mixing) will be presented during commercials, an already controversial move.” https://bit.ly/2DwSDLz
2. BONNAROO WILL BRING BACK WOMEN-ONLY CAMPING AREA: Bonnaroo music festival will bring back its women-only camping area this year. Called SheRoo, the area is designated for women and women-identifying non-binary festivalgoers who want a dedicated space during the four-day festival in Manchester, Tennessee. Billboard: "SheRoo is curated by the producers of Mothership Women's Festival in Los Angeles, whose team specializes in creating women's spaces with a feminist mindset. For 2019, SheRoo will include self-defense classes, body-positive yoga, kombucha bar, collaborative art projects, and body glitter sparkle stations to hit the Bonnaroo stages in style. SheRoo will feature a main tent that is open to all festivalgoers during designated times for everyone to partake in the unique experiences and participate in conversations with industry leaders about women empowerment in the musical sphere and more." https://bit.ly/2sHuxaK
3. GLAAD PULLS 'BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY' NOMINATION AFTER NEW BRYAN SINGER SEXUAL ASSAULT ALLEGATIONS: The Glaad Media Awards have dropped Bohemian Rhapsody as a best film nominee, following new sexual assault allegations against Bryan Singer, the director of the Freddie Mercury biopic. The new accusations were published in a story in the Atlantic, and Glaad said it pulled the film as a nominee to stand with victims. Singer has denied the allegations, which accuse him of raping underage boys. NBC News: "'In light of the latest allegations against director Bryan Singer, Glaad has made the difficult decision to remove Bohemian Rhapsody from contention for a Glaad Media Award in the Outstanding Film - Wide Release category this year. This week's story in The Atlantic documenting unspeakable harms endured by young men and teenage boys brought to light a reality that cannot be ignored or even tacitly rewarded,' Glaad said in a statement to Variety. 'Singer's response to The Atlantic story wrongfully used "homophobia" to deflect from sexual assault allegations and GLAAD urges the media and the industry at large to not gloss over the fact that survivors of sexual assault should be put first,' the statement continued." https://nbcnews.to/2FXiRZa
