When Napster’s Napster to Go Café mobile marketing tour came to Los Angeles to promote the consumer launch of its portable subscription service, Grand Central Marketing set up a full-service coffee and music bar inside Mel’s Diner. Guests with Napster to Go subscriptions were invited to fill up their MP3 players with free digital music—giveaways also included MP3 players from Dell and other companies—while filling up on gourmet coffee amidst pseudo-celebs like Blu Cantrell and Debbie Gibson. Everything from coffee cups to staff aprons to a neon sign in front of the venue bore Napster’s recognizable cat-in-headphones logo. —Alesandra Dubin
