This Week: Halloween-Inspired Celebrations

It’s that time of year again—ghost, goblin, and pumpkin time, that is—and that means the Central Park Conservancy is holding its festive Halloween ball tonight at Rumsey Playfield, with decor by Matthew David Events and catering by Laurence Craig Catering. Metropolitan Home magazine and the New York Design Center also hold Design Cares in Blue to benefit Partnership for the Homeless at the design center. And at Cipriani 42nd Street, the Princess Grace Foundation USA bestows the Princess Grace awards. Maybelline kicks off its pop-up beauty studio on Fifth Avenue with a cocktail party tonight; the promotion opens Thursday and continues through Saturday. Thursday is the opening of Neil Simon’s Broadway blockbuster (believe it or not) The Odd Couple, with a performance at the Brooks Atkinson Theater and a party at the Marriott Marquis, with event production by Tobak Lawrence Company. Also Thursday is Fashion Group International’s Night of Stars at Cipriani 42nd Street. That same evening Surface magazine and Lexus hold a party at Splashlight Studios to toast the “Avant Guardian New Photography” exhibit. Saturday, the New York Tabletop Show begins at the New York Merchandise Mart and the 7 W New York showrooms; the exhibitions continue through Wednesday.

Monday is Halloween, and a costumed throng gathers on Sixth Avenue for the Halloween Parade. Bette Midler’s New York Restoration Project fetes the holiday with its annual Hulaween benefit at the Waldorf-Astoria. Tuesday, the Alzheimer’s Association holds the Rita Hayworth gala at the Waldorf, and it’s the first day of the New York Comedy Festival, which includes performances at venues like Carolines on Broadway (the site of a kickoff event, a benefit for the Scleroderma Research Foundation), Town Hall, and Avery Fisher Hall; the festival continues through November 6. Also next Tuesday, the Folio: Show magazine publishing conference and expo comes to the Hilton New York and runs through next Thursday.
