* INCOMING *

1. POST-9/11 VENUE DEVELOPMENT: From BizBash senior editor Anna Sekula: Although real estate growth in downtown Manhattan suffered a setback during the recent financial crisis, development of the area south of City Hall has seen a significant rebound in the 10 years since the 9/11 attacks and, as a result, the number of hotels, restaurants, and cultural sites for events and corporate entertaining continues to expand. 2. EDDIE MURPHY HOSTING OSCARS: Confirming buzz that circulated over the holiday weekend, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced yesterday that Eddie Murphy will host the 84th Academy Awards February 26. Murphy is starring in the upcoming movie "Tower Heist," which was directed by Brett Ratner, who is producing the show with Don Mischer. Reaction:

Los Angeles Times: "By selecting Murphy, the academy is returning to its comedic host roots."

The Wrap: "The selection of Murphy by Ratner and Mischer returns the Oscar hosting job back to the kind of performer who handled the gig for most of the past two decades."
http://reut.rs/oCirIm

Miami Herald: "There's only one problem. Today's comic geniuses are Ben Stiller, Zach Galifianakis and Seth Rogen, not Murphy, who hasn't lived up to that billing, live or on screen, in far too many years."

3. INCENTIVE FOR INCENTIVES: For companies looking to boost morale and motivation, enlisting an incentive program might be the trick. Staples' business-to-business division, Staples Advantage, surveyed 170 office workers at various-sized companies across the U.S. who currently partake in incentive programs and those that don't. The results: 30 percent of employees would take on extra responsibilities if their company had an incentive program, 85 percent of those that already participate in one feel more valued, and 70 percent are happier and more motivated at work with one in place.

That got us wondering, have you seen producers/designers/caterers who recycle their ideas a little too often, or for too long? Have you ever told a vendor, "I think you need to freshen this up a bit?" What are you sick of seeing? Tell us: [email protected].
