To kick off its third annual color campaign, House Beautiful staged a social scavenger hunt on the streets of Washington on Wednesday and Thursday. Taking inspiration from the design magazine's March “All About Green” issue, the House Beautiful team strategically placed 19 green chairs, provided by brands like Duralee, La-Z-Boy, and Century, in iconic locations around the city. They posted clues about where to find them on Facebook and Twitter, and the first person to find a chair won it.

The Washington hunt followed similar promotions in Chicago in 2011 and New York in 2010. “[Washington] is a wonderful city for design with a vibrant street scene, and a very receptive audience,” said Sean Sullivan, the magazine's associate publisher.

People nationwide also had a chance to get in on the giveaways this week with a “Go! Green” online scavenger hunt, which users could play for a chance to win one of 11 green chairs. An online “chair"-ity auction, which runs through March 28, will benefit Home for Our Troops and showcases chairs from designers like Thomas Pheasant, American Leather, Room Service, and others.
