BiZBash West Coast Launch Packs PDC

More than 500 industry big shots turned up to celebrate our new venture.

October 25, 2006
How could any other event have run smoothly on June 19, when the area's top event planners, vendors, marketing execs, promoters, and other industry power-brokers were all attending the launch of the L.A. edition of BiZBash at the WP at Pacific Design Center? The celebration of our newest endeavor, adding to the versions of the magazine and Web site in New York, Florida, and Toronto took over WP, the new Wolfgang Puck restaurant on the design center's third floor; it was coordinated by Mary Micucci and her production team from Along Came Mary Productions, and catered by Wolfgang Puck Catering.
From the cool white, black, and multicolored leather couches from Classic Party Rentals and Designer 8 Furniture Rental, to the tabletops and style gallery by Angel City Designs, and the flowers by La Premier, everything was sleek and chic. Branding for the event was developed by Creative Intelligence Inc., which designed and printed the invitations and programs.

Guests mingled around the Versatube video displays and a Watchout video blend system installed by ShowPro, that displayed BiZBash photos and sponsor names. Outside on the terrace, they noshed on sushi, Asian noodles, mozzarella tomato skewers, Wolfgang Puck signature fries served in cones, and banana spring rolls. Guests lined up on the patio for the popular Oronoco ice bar, mojitos, and Don Julio tequila tasting, provided by distributor Diageo. They also perused the BiZBash Event Gallery, which displayed wares from all of the advertisers who participated in the premiere issue. Participants included Along Came Mary Productions, Classic Party Rentals, Designer 8 Furniture Rental, Creative Intelligence Inc., Kinetic Lighting, Pacific Design Center, Paramount Pictures, Patina Group, Signature Inc., Tentation Ultra Lounge, Tic-Tock, Warner Bros. Studios, Wilshire Restaurant, and Wolfgang Puck Catering.

Following remarks from BiZBash C.E.O. and founder David Adler, president Richard Aaron, West Coast president Elisabeth Familian, West Coast publisher Bobbi Proctor, and editor in chief Chad Kaydo, L.A. City Councilman Tom LaBonge officially welcomed BiZBash to Los Angeles with a commendation from the mayor. And for some unique entertainment, String Theory Productions performed using their signature harps with 60-foot-long strings, which were fashioned to the venue's terrace and extended all the way to the top of the building.

More than 500 guests left not only with a black tote stuffed with everything from Designer Water, gourmet biscotti, Paramount's War of the Worlds DVD, and gift certificates from many of L.A.'s premier restaurants and services—but also with pockets full of industry business cards.

Guests lounged on furniture provided by Classic Party Rentals and Designer 8 Event Furniture Rentals that gave both the interior and the exterior of the WP at the Pacific Design Center an added element of chic. Classic Party Rentals also provided high-quality black canvas and mesh gift bags chock-full of goodies for each guest.

Guest mingled and enjoyed a beautiful view of the city atop the patio outside the WP at the Pacific Design Center, a flexible space that can hold anywhere from 50 to 2,000 people. The patio provided a perfect space for the event gallery, which featured 14 tabletop exhibits by companies like Tic-Tock Couture Florals and Event Styling.

Sometimes, leaning into the season through cozy, winter-inspired decor can add a natural warmth to your event design. For a corporate holiday party held in December 2023, Sterling Engagements created a stylish wintry retreat in a lodge-like setting. The space featured snow-dusted trees, serene blue lighting inspired by the winter sky, and a color palette complemented by shimmering metallics that were designed to catch the light. The centerpiece of the festive gathering was the plaid dance floor and eye-catching ceiling installation, which mixed different mediums including winter greens, pine cones, starbursts, and more. Florals furthered the whimsical, wintry theme.

Take insights and inspiration from the grand opening of The Executive Hangar, a new venue in Fullerton, Calif.
'Tap into travel,' Borunda advises of hosting inside an airplane hangar. 'Hosting an event at a hangar opens doors to many fun themes. Lean into the obvious aviation or travel themes, and decorate with planes and helicopters. Other fun themes can be ‘launch’ parties; milestones ‘reaching new heights’; or anything that can be a fun play on words in relation to planes, helicopters, or the hangar.'
