Last Thursday, Greenleaf Gourmet Chopshop opened for lunch in Beverly Hills, featuring chopped salads and wraps. Chef and owner Jonathan Rollo (a former Patina Group staffer) created a menu with specialty items like the Kitchen Sink Cobb (traditional salad ingredients, plus garbanzo beans, basil, carrots, green onions, and turkey) and the Mexplosion (a whole-wheat tortilla wrap filled with salsa, avocado, red onion, chives, cilantro, sunflower seeds, cheddar cheese, barbecue shrimp, and lemon-lime vinaigrette). Guests can also build their own salads. In addition to serving dishes prepared with locally grown vegetables and farm-raised meats, the eatery nods to eco-friendliness in everything from the construction of the building (which maximizes natural light) to take-out packaging (containers, cups, straws, lids, and bags are made from corn and will compost in 45 days).
Tables constructed from bamboo butcher blocks seat 34 inside, and there is space for eight outside the casual, business-lunch-appropriate venue. The restaurant plans to launch dinner service, catering, and delivery (using energy-efficient cars, scooters, or bicycles) in the coming weeks.
