The National Ballet School is promoting itself as an event venue, with a March 6 open house showcasing six spaces available for bookings. Featuring historical and modern architecture, the award-winning Jarvis Street building only recently began accommodating requests for events. "Before, [event space] wasn't a priority, and we didn't have the resources or staff in place," director of business development Arlen Bartsch says. "Now there is a concerted effort to let event planners know the facilities are available."
A new preferred-partner program is in place to help planners choose caterers, event designers, rental companies, and valet services, and new staff members are handling accounts and business development. Bartsch says these efforts are part of an “organizational change” intended to recognize the revenue potential of the building and offset the costs of the school’s programs. The spaces available include the newly refurbished Currie Hall, a former Quaker Meeting House that seats 130 or holds 220 for receptions, and the Northfield House boardroom, which used to belong to the CBC. The boardroom holds 40 people for meetings.
