Re-upholstered vintage chairs and a dark grey painted tin ceiling are among the antique touches at Table 17, one of the latest additions to the ever-changing Queen Street East strip. The European-style bistro features a small menu focusing on seasonal fare, such as red wine-marinated rabbit, and a bar menu that includes cheese plates and charcuterie.
Co-owners Erik Joyal, John Dawson, and John Sinopoli (also the chef) acquired the former catering company headquarters, and then decided to take over the adjoining diner to create a multi-space restaurant. An upstairs private dining room seats 30 or holds 40 for receptions and includes a separate bar, a flat-screen TV, and large windows facing Queen Street. In the main dining room, the owners tore out the existing drywall to reveal a 104-year-old, barnyard-style wooden wall that adds a sense of history to the 30-seat room. "We wanted it to look like everything had been here for awhile," said Dawson.
Table 17 will soon add lunch and brunch menus in addition to dinner. The restaurant is available for event bookings, and wine tastings are also offered for private dinners.
