Here's a look at two new bakeries that specialize in gourmet cupcakes.
1. Genevieve Griffin and Adam Finley opened For the Love of Cake Custom Creations in Liberty Village in January. The bakery offers designer cakes for private events and gourmet cupcakes in flavours like red velvet, pumpkin pie, and strawberry shortcake. Mancakes, cupcakes designed with the male palate in mind, come in stout-spice, maple-bacon, Guinness-chocolate, and Black Forest. Griffin also offers what she refers to as four-dimensional cupcakes—the four dimensions being the cake, the filling, the topping, and the garnish. Cupcakes are $3 each, $15.90 for six, and $30 for a dozen. Custom orders can be created for corporate events.
2. Located in North York, Short & Sweet Cupcakes specializes in nut-free cupcakes. Flavours include Diamond and Pearls (vanilla cake with white chocolate chunks and vanilla buttercream), Short & Sweet (vanilla cake with pink buttercream), Bugs Bunny (carrot cake with cream cheese frosting), and One Hundred and One (Oreo cupcake with Oreo buttercream). Cupcakes are $14 for six and $26 for a dozen. Forty-eight hours notice is required for custom orders and delivery is available.
