As a prelude to next week's big Country Music awards—which come to town Tuesday, for the show's first time outside of Nashville—a week of related activities called Country Takes NYC kicks off with culinary day today, as various city restaurants provide special offers and country-theme menus. Tonight the Victoria's Secret fashion show fills the 69th Regiment Armory. And uptown at the Seventh Regiment Armory, guests at the Brooklyn Museum's fund-raiser get a sneak peek at the Modernism decorative arts expo, which opens to the public Thursday and continues through Sunday.
Thursday, the Council of Fashion Designers of America/Vogue Fashion Fund benefits from the 7th on Sale gala at Skylight. That same day, folks with a sweet tooth flock to the Chocolate Show, which commences at the Metropolitan Pavilion and the Altman Building. Also Thursday, Focus Features premieres Pride & Prejudice at Loews Lincoln Square; the screening is followed by a party at the Boathouse in Central Park and benefits Literacy Partners.
Friday—Veterans Day—the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II is observed at the Nation's Parade on Fifth Avenue, which will include country music duo Montgomery Gentry. Cooking demonstrations and seminars are held at Pier 94 for the New York Culinary Festival on Friday, and run through Sunday.
Saturday the International Hotel/Motel and Restaurant Show gets started with sessions on Saturday and its expo on Sunday; the show runs through Tuesday at the Javits Center. Also Saturday, Warner Brothers premieres Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire at the Ziegfeld Theater. At Jazz at Lincoln Center, as part of Country Takes NYC's culture and entertainment day, Broadway Meets Country mixes stars of the stage with stars of the country scene to benefit the Actors' Fund of America and the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. On Monday, performances mark the 80th anniversary of the Grand Ole Opry at Carnegie Hall and the New York Public Library celebrates its Library Lions benefit.
Tuesday is the big day: the Country Music awards go on at Madison Square Garden, with the Country Music Association's official after-party at the Marriott Marquis. Sony-BMG will toast the awards with a party at Gotham Hall, while other labels like Universal and Warner Brothers hold bashes around town.
