Cancer Care's Summer Soiree auction benefit was a simple, elegant affair, with tasty food, European garden decor and tons of luxurious items for auction. The event, held on Sotheby's seventh floor gallery (which held a recent New York Women in Film event), combined a live and silent auction to raise money for Cancer Care, a nonprofit devoted to providing education, financial aid and emotional support to cancer patients and their families. The event was put together by Cancer Care special event coordinator Treika Morget.
Renny Design for Entertaining provided the European garden decor of potted geranium, impatiens and coleus plants and oleander and bougainvillea trees that stood in various corners of the room. Thomas Preti Caterers catered the event, and offered an abundant variety of hors d'oeuvres, which included saffron risotto cakes; mini Peking duck crepes; sesame crusted tuna on a wonton crisp; and chicken roulade wrapped in prosciutto. An eclectic buffet of Latin and Asian food was offered to guests following the live auction, which was was hosted by Cancer Care trustee C. Hugh Hildesley of Sotheby's. Our favorite auction items: Lunch with Tony Randall at Sardi's and an afternoon stroll and lunch with Calvin Trillin and his wife Alice.
